Lutheran Medical Center offers top-level care for mothers with high-risk pregnancies.

Maternal-Fetal Medicine Center

The Maternal-Fetal Medicine Center at Lutheran Medical Center offers sophisticated care for high-risk mothers and their unborn babies in a warm, relaxing and friendly atmosphere.  Our experienced team of maternal-fetal medicine and high-risk pregnancy experts focus on comprehensive, safe and effective perinatal care in collaboration with a woman's current OB/GYN or primary care provider.

The health and well-being of our new parents and growing families is our primary concern.

Lutheran Medical provides a comprehensive range of both outpatient and inpatient consultation services, including:

  • Care for maternal medical complications
  • Fetal abnormalities or anomalies
  • Ultrasound services
  • Diagnostic procedures
  • Genetic and preconception counseling
  • Prenatal screening testing

Patients are frequently referred to us during their pregnancy when complications develop, such as pre-term labor, poor fetal growth, fetal abnormality, or high blood pressure. We also offer diagnostic procedures such as chorionic villus sampling, amniocentesis, and others as needed if problems develop during your pregnancy. We will co-manage your pregnancy with your current OB provider if a medical complication should develop such as hypertension, diabetes, heart disease or if you have a previous pregnancy complication such as multiple miscarriages, preterm deliveries, or infertility.

Maternal Genetic Counseling

Preconception and prenatal counseling is available to help you understand your options, including whether to proceed with prenatal screening and testing. Maternal and paternal risk factors are assessed to determine if either parent could be a carrier of a genetic disorder. This includes a review of family history and factors such as ethnicity that can indicate risk for certain birth defects or diseases. In addition, counseling is available for patients who received abnormal results.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Every mom-to-be dreams of a glowing pregnancy that results in a happy, healthy baby. At Lutheran, we understand that life doesn't always go as planned. If you or your unborn baby are at risk or require closer observation, our maternal-fetal specialists are here to care for you throughout your pregnancy, during delivery and after you take your little one home.

Your baby deserves the best care possible. That’s why Lutheran has a Level IIIA Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) on-site to care for critically ill or premature babies. The security of having your baby nearby is comforting when he or she needs special care and support.

Our NICU has 10 private and semi-private suites with 24-hour access to our specially trained team of neonatologists, pediatric hospitalists and pediatricians. Additionally, we have a neonatal nurse practitioner on duty at all times. You are always able to visit and participate in the care of your baby. If you plan to breastfeed your baby, our nurses and lactation consultants can give you the support and encouragement you need
